Zermatt is another tourist town full of hotels, Air-BnBs, shops and restaurants. It's in the shadow of the Matterhorn, which is its main attraction. But, there's more to Zermatt than the Matterhorn.

Our hotel. Nice rooms. Great restaurant and our rooms had a nice view of the clouds obscuring the Matterhorn. |
|
Our full day in town, the Matterhorn showed itself almost entirely early in the morning. It really is quite something to see. |
The day's main activity was the Gornegrat railway which is a cog wheel train that takes you up to the Gorner Glacier with views all along the way.

End of the line |

Going up |

A moderate grade on the line |
The main view is supposed to be the Matterhorn. It decided to hide behind a cloud all day, but no matter, the Gorner Glacier view was easily worth the trip.

The Glacier |
|
The Matterhorn is back behind the cloud, somewhere. |
|
Switzerland had wildflowers everywhere. |

Just me and a glacier |

They had a salt lick at the top and it attracted Ibex - a wild goat.
Ready to head back down
The afternoon weather deteriorated, but we went for a short hike until rain turned us back
|
This trail is the lead to the Zermatt base camp |
|
Fields of dandelions were everywhere. |
So the Matterhorn decided to play peek-a-boo with us, but in the end, it didn't Matter...horn
Next up, The Longest Day.
