...and Glacier National Park.

At the start of planning, this was "Glacier National Park"...and Canada.

It wound up being the Canadian Rockies....and Glacier.  And, it turns out the best way to do both involved a 350 mile trek from Jasper down to Glacier.  The first part of the route was back down the Icefield Parkway.  The second part could be a faster route right to East Glacier or a more scenic, but hour slower, route to West Glacier.

We chose the scenic route.

Crutches at the ready, here we go.

Back down the Icefield Parkway

Our first stop was at Peyto Lake

The view toward Peyto Glacier that feeds the lake

At the end of the Icefields Parkway, we went east on the Trans Canadian Highway a bit to the route west over the pass just south of Kicking Horse through Kootenay NP to Radium Hot Springs.

The Trans Canadian through the National Parks has lots of these wildlife overpasses with fencing along the highway to guide animals to them.

We found a nice picnic area for lunch.  We always had our Sam's Club cooler bag with us for lunch, water and snacks.  Lunch was almost always PB&J.  Except for me.  I'm a PB&noJ guy.

"Wait!  We are chewing peanut butter!"

"Okay.  Now."  Rats.  Mouths still stuck shut.

It was a pretty long day of driving.  Although the scenic route was, in fact, scenic, we had been spoiled so took almost no pictures along the way.  With  a dinner stop in Whitefish Montana, our total time in from Jasper to East Glacier was almost exactly 12 hours.

...after 12 hours in the car...
